Fuego Blanco - Cabernet Franc Malbec
The 2013 Cabernet Franc Malbec is a clear step up over the 2012 in terms of freshness and precision. The Malbec comes from an old vineyard and the Cabernet Franc is sourced from recent planting at 1,700 meters altitude (some 100 kilometres north of Mendoza City) on the border with Mendoza, but in the San Juan province. The soils there are very rich in chalk and slate. Even though it was a cooler vintage, the grapes seem to have achieved better ripeness. The nose shows very floral aromas and something balsamic without being herbal. The palate is vibrant with the combination of buttery tannins and great, almost citric acidity that makes you salivate. The wine finishes very long and persistent. 5,600 bottles produced.
