Malbec de Angeles Viña 1924 (De Angeles)
The 2013 Malbec Viña 1924 is a wild, aromatic and perfumed red reminiscent of a northern Rhône because of it strong violet and smoked meat aromas, coupled with something earthy and a fresh touch in the shape of orange blood skin. It's really attractive and captivating, the spirity juice of an old vineyard planted in 1924 in Vistalba produced with minimal intervention and very judicious oak. They use a specific plot, what they call plot number three, which has a soil rich in lime and some stones. In the 2016 vintage they have, for the first time, fermented the lime and the stonier parts together and have bottled 300 unoaked bottles of each part to see how the wine develops. The freshness of 2013 comes through, and so does the intensity and harmony of the old vines. It's terribly balanced and fresh, with ultra-fine tannins. Simply delicious.
