AbremundosOctava Alta (Bodega Abremundos)

Following a musical theme, the 2012 Octava Alta is a blend of Malbec and Cabernet Franc that feels higher-pitched (pun intended). As all their wines, the grapes were sourced for the Uco Valley and are fermented in French barrels that are rolled to have a gentle extraction with manual punching down. Pelleriti tells me they have used barrels, as they have no budget for new ones, and I say, great that they don't have a budget! The wine is ripe,aromatic and hedonistic with aromas of plums and dark cherries and perhaps a touch of black olives, but nothing herbal at all. This wine had 18 months of aging in oak. It's a full-bodied blend with good concentration, integrated oak and sweet tannins. Everything is in balance. In an XL balance, but balanced after all. Ripe, juicy and really showy. I'd go for this one. 10,000 bottles produced.
